Series Starters

Bookworms,

Over the last couple of years, I have accumulated a fair amount of books. Of these books, majority of them are book series. Sometimes, I decided not to invest in the whole series because a) the series intimidated me or b) I wasn’t sure if it was my thing? However, regardless of whether I read the books I had already bought, I ended up with a lot of books that were the first books of the series. This year, I am determined to read them one book per month to see if they are something I would enjoy and would love to invest more in or if I should be trying to pass them on to people more likely to enjoy them.

So, here are the books I have on my tbr this year. I will not even try to have a proper schedule for these because that way lies failure. So, let’s just accept that I will try my best to read all these during the year.

Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson

Malazan Book of the Fallen is a thoroughly intimidating series from it’s complex plots to the sheer size of the world building. Also, I am not sure if the characters are the same throughout the books because each book takes place in a different kingdom or at least location from what I have been able to glean. So, yeah, that’s another factor that thoroughly intimidates me. So, I haven’t even touched this book in a while. Let’s see how I feel after I read the book.

The Magician’s Guild by Trudi Canavan

I have the entire first trilogy and these have been sitting on my shelves, gathering dust despite this being a intriguing series. Let’s hope to finish the book series entirely. I am not too sure what the book is about anymore unfortunately. That’s how badly neglected this trilogy has been.

Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

This is entirely on me, I have been dithering about it for a long time now and I have no idea why. I have no excuses and I am not gonna offer any.

The Way of Kings by Brandson Sanderson

Stormlight Archive. I keep meaning to read it and it passes me by. Not this year, this year I am determined to get all caught up.

Jade City by Fonda Lee

I keep hearing about this series everywhere and from the synopsis, this definitely sounds like my kind of book. Jade magic, mafia and friendships/families so, yeah, I don’t see a lot of trouble with this one so far.

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

the lies of locke lamora

This is a series that I have been hesitant because I just don’t have the date for the latest book and I don’t want this to become another ASOIAF, okay? So, here’s to hoping that by the time I read it, there will be already a date for the next book.

Onyx and Ivory by Mindee Arnett

onyx and ivory

I have no excuses other than the fact that my mood simply did not vibe with this one at the time. (insert shrug emoji) I have nothing else in my defense.

A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos

a winter's promise

I just got this book last year and I am okay with not having read it yet. Only the last book is yet to release so, I am kinda set with this series if I happen to love it. From what I have seen on booktube, this is a great series. This is translated from French and from what I have read, it is nothing like a traditional fantasy and that intrigues me a lot.

A Hero Born by Jin Yong

a hero born

This is another series I only came to know about very, very recently and the last book is due to come sometime this year so I am not too worried about this one either. It’s a translated series and from what I hear is a very successful book series in China. So, let’s see how much I like it.

+++++

And that’s it. That’s the list of books I am hoping to read to see if I want to continue with the series or not. Do you have any series starters that you haven’t read yet? If so, which series? Tell me all about it in the comments.
