Readers,
We all know by now that I have a weird relationship with readathons. It’s probably entirely my fault but who really knows? Not me. That still doesn’t stop me from wanting to participate in them though!
So, here I am again. With another readathon that I might or might not be able to complete. Such is life, such is my lack of impulse control. Oh, well.
It is annually hosted by Book Roast over on YouTube and she also has a wonderful site where you can download your career guidebooks and even get some book recs for the OWLs you have chosen! It’s absolutely amazing, the sheer amount of work put into this is actually a bit intimidating.
I dithered a lot on what I actually wanted to do and I could possibly do given my life right now. So, in the end, I chose three potential careers and I am hoping that I manage to complete at least one of the careers.
So, without further ado, let’s get into it!
Astronomer
This includes three subjects that I need to excel at.
Arithmancy
(Prompt: Magical qualities of number 2: balance/opposites, read something outside of your favourite genre.)
For this one, I chose Partition Voices. It’s a nonfiction book and it’s essentially an account of people who during the partition of India and Pakistan were in Britain. It sounds like it would be harrowing and it’s not my comfort zone at all. So I am hoping to read it.
Astronomy
(Prompt: Night Classes, read majority of the book when it’s dark outside.)
Any book I read could count for this, I guess because I mostly do read at night. Still for ceremony’s sake, I will add Warbreaker in this one because I am already reading it at night.
History of Magic
(Prompt: Witch hunts, book featuring witches/ wizards)
I chose Spellhacker by M. K. England for this one. One because it has witches/magic in them and second because I badly want to read it. It’s a lucky happenstance that this readathon gave me an excuse to read it.
Herbologist
This has three subjects, again.
Care of Magical Creatures
(Prompt: Hippogriff, creature with a beak on the cover)
For this one, I chose The Sisters Grimm. It is a long due read and it has a beak on the cover! So, I should be set.
Herbology
(Prompt: Mimbulus Mimbletonia, title of the book starts with a M)
For this one, I have two options and I am not sure which one I will end up picking. The first one is My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elisabeth Russell and the second option is Mort by Terry Pratchett. Both are on my iPad and have been sitting there for a while.
Potions
(Prompt: Shrinking Solution, a book under 150 pages)
For this prompt, I have once again multiple options because I just never know when the moody part of me will come out. So I have The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, No One Is Too Small To Make A Difference by Greta Thunberg or Tales of Beedle the Bard by J. K. Rowling.
Wandmaker
This has four subjects and a few of them are repeats from the earlier careers.
Ancient Runes
(Prompt: Heart rune, heart on the cover or in the title)
I am still undecided on this one and it makes me very, very frustrated. I am hoping that by the end of the readathon, I might have actually decided on a book and read it too. (That’s the overly optimistic part of me, it rarely come out of its shell, by the way.)
Arithmancy
(Prompt: Magical qualities of number 2: balance/opposites, read something outside of your favourite genre.)
As this is a subject I have already covered, I decided to give myself some option seeing as it is for a different career. So, I thought why not go all the way out and read another nonfiction that’s probably as harrowing as the first one. Yep. It’s Small Country by Gaël Faye.
Care of Magical Creatures
(Prompt: Hippogriff, creature with a beak on the cover)
For this one, I chose The Sisters Grimm. I don’t really have many books with beaks on them. So this one stays the same.
Charms
(Prompt: Lumos Maxima, white cover)
For this one, I am choosing Warbreaker, my current read. It just so happens to be white so that’s my win in this readathon. Yes, I know I have already chosen Warbreaker as my Astronomy read but I can work it out, right?
And that’s it for me. It’s not like it’s overly ambitious or anything, right? Right? Let’s just see how it goes because I am determined to at least do one career. Pray for me.
In any case, are you also participating in this readathon? If so, which careers did you choose? Tell me all about it in the comments. Also if you have any suggestions for a book with heart on the cover/ in the title, please, help a bookworm out.
