Nine Disappointing Books of 2018

Hi, hello!

I am bringing my disappointing reads to you, again. However this time, they are valid for the whole year, that’s right! It’s the Disappointing Books of 2018 but I must say that I didn’t read enough books released in 2018 to be disappointed by them so this list includes books from previous few years as well so don’t be shocked when you see them.

Now, I am aware that there are some books which some people really loved and were perhaps a bit more anticipated than most but this rating is by me for me so if you see a favourite there, don’t be sad. We are all different people with different tastes.

I will try not to be too negative with these because they truly weren’t all bad, hell, most of them got like 2.5 rating, which isn’t too bad but they just didn’t work for me. I will also link the reviews in instead of ranting about them all over again. It’s just tiring at this point, I think, for both you (the readers) and me.

Bookshop Girl by Chloe Coles

The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry

Discovery by Leslie Schweitzer Miller

Love, Hate and Other Filters by Samira Ahmed

This Is Kind of an Epic Love Story by Kheryn Callender

What It It’s Us by Adam Silvera & Becky Albertalli

Love Is Blind by William Boyd

Amsterdam Exposed by David Wienir

Solitaire by Alice Oseman

So, these are the books that disappointed me the most and while I have included Solitaire in it, I might give it a re-read to see if my impression of it was right or if I was just on a high of Radio Silence and I Was Born For This.

I have another list of disappointing books which also features some of the books and some are not here because guess what? I found something that was more disappointing than them. I am not sure how to feel about that yet.

Have you read the books mentioned above? If yes, what are your ratings and why? If not, do you have any plans to read them in the future?

  1. Surprisingly I have not read a single one of these books, I am going to take that as a good thing because you were disappointed in them. I am surprised about What It It’s Us by Adam Silvera & Becky Albertalli because so many people were talking about it. Also, I am a bit surprised by The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry because I read the description and it seemed really interesting. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I mean, they weren’t blowing up the internet is all I am saying. And as far as The Essex Serpent goes, I loved the writing style but it was the plot and the characters I wish were more fleshed out. It was a case of higher expectations from the get go that failed me, I think. About What If It’s Us, well, I liked the characters but there was…I can’t articulate properly why this got such a low rating but one of the biggest problems with this was the fact that the actual relationship seemed a bit forced and a bit rushed to me. Not to mention a lot of other factors. I know this one is a fan favourite and I am sad that I didn’t like it as much as the others. 😞
