If you had seen my May book haul post, you would remember that I talked about an unboxing. Well, the time has come.

Earlier this year, I started this blog in the hopes of improving my writing and getting to know more about the blogging world in general. The writing has taken a backseat for the moment but I have been exposed to a whole new world of book-blogging and bookstagram. It’s from bookstagram that I came to know about subscription book boxes, these boxes are curated around a certain theme with a certain audience in mind. There aren’t a ton of subscription boxes in India but there are few that I kept my eye on. One of them is called The Big Book Box.

Theirs was the very first Indian book subscription box I was introduced to and they left quite an impression on me because later, I ordered their most popular and economically effective book box. They have these cute names for each boxes, all variants of coffee types. The cheapest one is Frappe and then, Espresso, Cappuccino and their most expensive and the one with the most books and goodies, Mocha.

I ordered the Espresso box because well, it seemed like a safe bet. I am very happy to say that I was right. Since this was my first time ordering something like this, I had no idea how it all worked but the people who run their Instagram were very friendly and soon enough I got the hang of how everything worked. My May box which I ordered in April arrived just last week.

It had two books that had really intrigued me and I am so glad that I waited because there were some goodies in the box that I absolutely wasn’t expecting. So, without further ado, let’s just look at the awesome box, shall we?

The box itself is pretty sturdy and it’s cute!! It came wrapped in a white plastic wrap which was a good idea, what with the rains and all. This box offers two books, one paperback and one hardcover along with four to six goodies and bookmarks. There’s also a sort of a magazine of their own which comes with the box. It’s called Barefoot Sunshine, it’s pretty good.

The theme for May was Grimoires from the Lands of Mystique.

And yes, you are seeing it! The paper they use to cover/ protect the books and the goodies in the box is The Daily Prophet from Harry Potter. My heart just melted when I looked at it, that was such a good start to my unboxing, you have to admit. I mean, when something starts with Sirius Black’s face, it’s gonna be good. There were a few things on the top of the pile, the first being Subscriber’s Handbook, then, there was the card for the prompts you could use for Instagram. ( I don’t think I succeeded there but oh well.)

Let’s start with the books because it is a book box. Now, both the choices were pretty good as far as I am concerned. I know, I know. At least one of the books has been around for a while now but the thing is, I hadn’t gotten around to buying it so this was perfect for me. I doubt I need to tell you the hype surrounding Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, this book is a fantastic choice and I can’t wait to read this book. The other one was a World War II nonfiction/ memoir book that I immediately wanted to get my hands on.

Yes, I am aware that World War II does not scream grimoires from the lands of mystique, this book was an option to another book in the box and since I was on a World War II readathon of sorts at the time, I decided to opt for this one.

Now come the goodies that came with the box. There were some surprises, pleasant ones and some expected goodies in the box. Since it was a May box and it is summer in India at the time, they had chosen a lovely mason jar for the box. It is quite good in quality. There was also a dream catcher included, it took my breath away. I mean, it was such a pretty white and with such a lovely design. I just loved it, ok?

Other tiny goodies in the box include a Harry Potter lapel pin, a Zélie button badge (which I really wasn’t expecting), an Eleanor and Park button badge along with a sticker of the same book. Then there was a Percy Jackson keychain, it has the Last Olympian mini book thing. There was an lovely map of the world from Children of Blood and Bone. Also, a really pleasant surprise for me was the Six of Crows mini notepad!!! I screeched about it to the The Big Book Box Instagram, they were nice about handling my over excitement.

There were two lovely, big, double-sided bookmarks in the box as well, one of them was a lovely blue with constellations on them on one side and on the other, there was a quote from Julius Ceasar. The other one was a bookmark made for Children of Blood and Bone, I am guessing that’s either Zélie or one of the other characters? I am not sure yet as I haven’t read the book yet. It is also double-sided with a quote from the book on the other side.

Look how pretty they all look together!!!! I have been meaning to read this book for a while now and while I am super excited to read it, I am also dreading it a bit. I mean, it’s part of a series, will I be able to wait long enough for the next book to come? Will I be able to handle the hype and the book? I will have to read it though, it just sounds so, so good!!!

Overall, I think this was box was totally worth the money I paid for it. I mean, two pretty awesome books with a considerable number of goodies included, it’s a pretty good deal which is why I have ordered their July box but this time, it’s gonna be the Mocha one. The books in the line up of the box are right up my alley and they are so, so pretty!!!

That’s it for now but expect another unboxing in near future (which is probably in August? Because it’s a July box which might reach me till August).

Hey, is it like they set a theme per month and suppose we order an espresso package, we get to choose which of the 2 books from the four we want?

Oh, there’s a theme of sorts and they select the books accordingly, however, they have already set which books go into which box. You can pay a bit more and get the books from the more expensive boxes if you wish.
