Poppy’s Place In The Sun

by Lorraine Wilson

Sometimes you need to lose yourself to find your way home…

With only her trusty dogs Peanut, Treacle and Pickwick by her side, Poppy Kirkbride could be forgiven for having doubts about her move to a quiet village in rural France. But as the sun shines down on her ramshackle new home, Poppy knows she’s made the right decision. A lick of paint, and some TLC and her rustic farmhouse will be the perfect holiday retreat – Poppy’s dream come true.

Poppy is welcomed by her fellow villagers, except for brooding local vet Leo Dubois, who makes it clear Poppy isn’t welcome in his village – or his life! Leo might be gorgeous, but Poppy won’t be told what to do by an arrogant Frenchman – no matter how kind and gentle he is to her dogs!

Determined to stay, Poppy tries to understand the enigmatic Frenchman better. But as the two get closer, Poppy sees another side to Leo – a man with heartbreak of his own. And as Poppy falls for Leo she faces a new dilemma: to stay in France and forever break Leo’s heart, or to give up her own dream and relinquish her place in the sun.

Review

EDIT: Forgot one important bit! I was kindly given an e-ARC of the book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

There are times when I have those reading sprees and I can’t seem to stop reading. I read this book during one such spree. It has romance but more than that, it has dogs and they stole my heart and frankly, that extra star is because of them! I would love to have a dog at some point in my life so whenever I read about them, I am sort of all in awe. However, this one…this one almost made me cry, too. You will know why if you read it. I don’t wanna spoil anything.

This was such a fun read!

Poppy was such a wonderfully written character and her dogs literally stole the show for me. I fell in love with the little dogs as the story moved on. Poppy is a genuinely lovable character and the side characters were pretty lively on their own. Leo and his dog, Maxi, are awesome in their own way. I loved the fact that Poppy dealt with a nasty blow in life but didn’t become scared of the changes and challenges. I loved that her individuality remained steady throughout the novel, yes, there was romance but the thing is, I loved the journey she went through.

I also want to know what happens to Joanna next.

It’s a perfect read for those lazy afternoons and this book made me wish I was in France. I can’t speak French at all! Imagine the chaos! This was my first time reading anything of Lorraine Wilson’s and now, I would like to read more of her books because her writing is lovely.

I would recommend it to those who love France, dogs and a little bit of everything from life.
